Basic information

Face Off Table Knoll

Designed by Frank Gehry in 1990.

Inspired by the surprising strength of the apple crates he played on as a child, Frank Gehry created his thoroughly original collection of bentwood furniture. The ribbon-like designs transcend the conventions of style by exploring, as the great modernists did, the essential challenge of deriving form from function. Face Off Table tops: 1.3cm thick tempered clear glass with polished edge; 16mm thick textured laminate top with clear solid edgeband. Four bolts attach table top to base. Face Off Table base: Constructed of hard white maple veneers in 5cm wide, 1mm thick strips. Laminated to 7-ply thickness with high-bonding urea glue. All wood grains run in the same direction for resilience. State-of-the-art thermoset assembly glue provides structural rigidity without the need for metal connectors. Solid maple center column prevents cracking. Arched base design allows ample leg room. Glides: Clear plastic with a matte frost finish.
